Country Pub Wembworthy, Chulmleigh
Bob and Kate look forward to welcoming you to this very special country pub in Wembworthy, located between Eggesford Station and Winkleigh. Set in the most beautiful countryside deep in mid-Devon we have plenty of space outside for people to enjoy, outdoor seating, a large car park and a sunny bar/dining area. Our characterful country pub can seat up to 50 guests for special events and can also be hired exclusively. We welcome children with well-behaved parents, dogs – as long as their owners are on leads and horses (but unfortunately, they will have to stay outside!). We have a comprehensive menu and a constantly changing specials board, also snacks, sandwiches and summertime salads. We use locally sourced ingredients in our homecooked dishes. In addition to this, we are also a Brit Stop Host so we look forward to welcoming you as a guest at our site sometime soon.

Great Location
Come and enjoy some of the lovely walks in the local area with the most amazing views of both Dartmoor and Exmoor. The Tarka Trail is also only a couple of miles away. Stop off for a bite to eat for lunch or an evening meal.
The local train station at Eggesford (2 miles) is on the Tarka line which links with Barnstaple and Exeter allowing easy access to London by train.
Although we are in the middle of nowhere, we are in the middle of everywhere! We are within easy reach of both the north and south coast, Dartmoor and Exmoor and Tiverton and Exeter with links to the A30 and M5.
What our customers are saying
- Had a nice evening meal with a pint of local beer. Enjoyed listening to local folk musicians rehearsing in the bar. Friendly landlady recommended some nearby walks.ken williamson6/07/2022Stumbled across this lovely quirky homely pub whilst in the area, only popped in for a snack but ended up have 2 course meal.Food was fresh and just delicious, healthy sized portions too you wouldn’t leave hungry.Staff very welcoming. Would certainly recommend and we will definitely be backsarah crocker1/28/2021
- A traditional country pub in the middle of the countryside. Big car park and excellent food, all home cooked. When we visited three local people were playing Celtic music. They were very good too! The landlord was very welcoming and the food was of excellent quality and plentiful. It’s a shame that more people don’t know about this little gem of a pub. Every 3rd Wednesday the have a classic car meet. So next time we are down in Devon we’ll try to get along for the meet and a meal.Nigel French8/01/2024
- A traditional pleasant rural Devon pub. Family visited three times over the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ period and the experience was consistently good. Food is traditional, cooked to order ( fabulous steaks, lamb shank and lasagne) and desserts are home made, even the meringue. Good Devon ale too, which for me puts the cherry on the cake.Simon Aston1/28/2021
- Excellent food, tried the ‘special’ Turkey, Ham and Leek pie which was delicious, family members had lasagne and ham, egg and chips which they thoroughly enjoyed too. Owners were very friendly and made you feel very welcome. Will definitely revisit. Parking: Large free car parkDarron Parker-Redman10/07/2024
- Karen Vodden5/10/2019We had a lovely spontaneous lunch here yesterday. It was a snowy cold day and the Sunday roast was a lovely treat. Portion size was wonderful, so well cooked and tasty. We had pudding too, great friendly service and value for money. We will be back. Thank you so much.Miriam White12/15/2022
